Pfeifer Holz, Austria has upgraded their glulam production in Imst. The West Tyrolean town of Imst not only accommodates one of the largest glulam operations in Europe – but also one of the most flexible. When the Pfeifer group exchanged the existing press systems against two HF-presses, this amounted to a paradigm shift. Demand had in fact changed. Instead of ordering big quantities of one and the same dimension, customers had started placing short-term orders and in small scales. This requires flexibility – and that is something which a Kallesoe press can provide: It automatically adjusts to varying cross sections.
The LHF-type equipment that operates in Imst is capable of processing blocks up to 130 cm wide and 29 cm thick. In Pfeifer’s plant, the maximum length is 24 m. Technical director Dietmar Seelos is quite satisfied with the reliability of the press. „The line runs as it should – smoothly“, he says. „The performance is up to what was promised. We would buy the same machine all over again“.
